PUPILS at Dumaphansi Secondary School a school in rural Msinga apparently are a law unto themselves!
Teachers claim they are afraid of taking them to task for fear of being attacked or even killed.
The pupils allegedly carry home-made guns, knives and knobkerries to school.
One teacher told Daily Sun: “Kids are rude and have no vision, especially the matrics. They don’t listen or bother with their work.”
He said pupils come and go as they please and if a teacher questions them he is promised a beating. He has lost count of the number of times he has been sworn at.
“Most of us want to find work somewhere else because we fear for our lives,” he said.
They want the KZN Education Department to intervene.
“Once a pupil walked into another class and grabbed a girl by force in front of the teacher. When the teacher tried to stop him he threatened and swore at him.”
Msinga resident Simphiwe Mchunu said it was not the only school in the area with the problem. “This is common in most schools. Pupils carry weapons and throw stones at their teachers.
“If nothing is done soon no teacher will want to teach here.”
KZN education spokesman Muzi Mahlambi said the department will not tolerate rude pupils: “We appeal to parents to speak to the kids before it becomes a police matter.”
