WHEN Pastor Thabani Khanye started receiving WhatsApp messages from gay men expressing their love for him, he thought they had the wrong number.
But he was shocked when he discovered someone had posted a message on his Facebook page, asking for sex from men! The pastor (35) of Spiritual Movement Church in Nquthu, KZN said he started realising something was wrong when he received phone calls last week from men saying they got his number on his Facebook page.
He soon started getting complaints from church members as well.
“When I checked on Facebook, someone had posted my photo and a message asking for sex from men.”
The pastor said the photo was posted on the page of Nquthu Community Radio, which he owns.
“I went to church on Sunday and explained to the members that I didn’t post anything on Facebook. I made it clear I wasn’t gay.”
Khanye said he suspected the post had something to do with a fight over ownership of the radio station.
“We were taken to court by a young man claiming I had stolen the station from him, but the court ruled against him. I suspect he is bitter and wants to ruin my reputation.”
He said although he didn’t have a problem with gay people, he was angry that someone had lied about him to drag his name through the mud.
His wife, Lungile (34) said she knew her husband wasn’t gay, but she couldn’t face neighbours any more.
Major Thulani Zwane said a case of crimen injuria was opened, but no arrest had been made. The post was deleted after the case was opened.
