MATHAPELO thinks she’s alive today because her late mum warned her in a dream not to sleep at home.
That was the night the neighbour’s house fell on her mum’s old house.
Mathapelo Tsumane (56) of Jozi’s Alexandra is grateful to the spirit of her mother who died aged 84 in July.
She said she and her family would have been killed if they were there when the neighbour’s house collapsed. Amazingly, nobody was hurt!
Mathapelo said they had planned to stay in her mum’s house until next year when they would perform rituals.
Neighbours said it was a peaceful night – until they heard a great crash!
The double-storey house the neighbour was building collapsed, smashing Mathapelo’s roof and everything in the sitting-room and kitchen.
Mathapelo said the neighbours wouldn’t have dared build a second floor while her mum was alive.
When she saw they were building extra rooms on top of their house she asked them to stop as it was dangerous.
“Everyone could see the new walls weren’t straight,” she said. “It was a ticking bomb!
Mathapelo said her mum came to her in a dream before the collapse and told her to go and sleep at her own house.
“My neighbour called me that night to say my mother’s house had been damaged.”
She said the accident wouldn’t have happened if her neighbour had listened to her.
The SunTeam spoke to Mandla Khumalo who was rebuilding his house. He blamed the bricks, saying they weren’t strong and that he would fix the problem. “We will not continue building the top rooms.
“We will demolish the rest and fix the damage we have caused,” he said.
