RESIDENTS are living in fear of a gang of men who force their way into homes and rob and kill the occupants!
Janky Matlala of Alexandra, northern Joburg, narrowly escaped being attacked by the evil men on Sunday night.
He told Daily Sun he was asleep when his son, who was studying for his matric exams, woke him up at midnight.
“My son told me there was someone trying to force the door open.
“I went out and saw four men trying to come in,” said Janky.
He said he knew he would lose his life if he tried to argue with the thugs, so he ran back indoors, banged the door shut and locked it.
“The thugs tried to push the door open, but my wife, children and I leaned against it and they failed,” he said.
Minutes later, Janky heard gunshots and screaming outside. He later found out that the thugs had robbed two sisters who had just arrived home from their jobs at a restaurant. The evil criminals shot a neighbour when he tried to help.
Victim Veronica Ndlela (21) said: “I was sitting on my bed when four armed men came in and started insulting us.
“They pointed firearms at us and took my sister’s handbag, which had R1 200 in it. My neighbour heard us screaming and came out to help us, but they shot him dead and ran off with his shoes. He did not even say a word. They just shot him!”
The dead man’s family has declined to comment.
Gauteng provincial police spokesman Captain Kay Makhubele said cases of robbery and murder had been opened, but no arrests had been made.
