LIMPOPO artist Ronald Nkoana’s biggest wish was to meet Nelson Mandela in person.
Sadly, that dream died with the former president in 2013.
But then Ronald thought of the next best thing – creating a scuplture of Mzansi’s most beloved leader!
The 29-year-old from Moletjie Ga-Setati is a handyman by day who is working hard to improve his artistic skills.
“I decided to create a sculpture of Mzansi’s first democratically elected president because of the love he showed to all the people in the country and the world.
“My wish was one day to meet him face to face, but he passed on before that could happen.
“I then thought the next best thing would be to create a sculpture that will live forever,” said Ronald.
He created the waterproof sculpture using pipes, putty and glue to ensure it was not ruined by exposure to harsh weather.
He even dressed the sculpture with the best clothes in his wardrobe so Tata could look the part.
“I took the clothes and shoes I love and gave them to my Mandela. The shirt resembles the ones he used to wear.”
The mobile sculpture has its own chair on which to rest.
Ronald said he was now planning to create more works of famous people.
