accreditation

COPS on Sunday arrested a man who could be Mzansi’s oldest rape accused.

An 84-year-old from Kliptown, Soweto, was bust after allegedly raping an 11-year-old boy!

The victim told the cops the suspect – who was known to him as a neighbour – had called him to his shack and offered him sweets.

The boy said when he got to the shack he was raped and threatened.

The child told cops the madala told him not to tell anyone what had happened, but he informed an older cousin as soon as he got home.

The victim was taken to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for a medical examination.

  • In a separate incident in Kliptown, a 40-year-old man was arrested on Friday after allegedly raping his seven-year-old niece.

The mum of the child noticed she was not walking properly and when she asked her what happened, the girl said she had been raped by her uncle while visiting his home.

The suspect was arrested and the victim was taken for medical attention.

Both suspects are due to appear in the Protea Magistrates Court tomorrow on rape charges.

The police said the Soweto East Cluster had observed a worrying rise in the number of rape cases being reported.

In response, all five stations in the cluster on Saturday started rape awareness campaigns.
