OFFENDERS at Polokwane Prison last week showed off their talents last week, including singing, sewing and working with beads.

Shebo Maserumule, the area’s co-ordinator of prisoner development and care, said: “Our rehabilitation and correctional programmes aim to improve offenders’ behaviour. Next August they will be getting their own radio station.”

Maserumule encouraged families to be part of the prisoners’ rehabilitation.

“In order for offenders’ behaviour to change they need to have their relatives’ presence and support.”

“We provide care programmes that improve the physical condition and health of prisoners. Our clinic is open seven days a week and a nurse is on standby at night.”

Yvonne Chuma (30), who’s serving 14 years for bank card fraud, told Daily Sun: “My message to all women out there is to take care of themselves. They must be happy even if they have little. The biggest sorrow I have is that I’ve lost contact with my kids.”
