EARLY this month, gogo Mosima Phaho was walking behind her cattle, bringing them home from the bushes as the sun began to set.
Suddenly she fell into a gaping hole, breaking her leg badly.
But while she’s still in agony
recovering at home, the contractor who left the trench wide open has not even offered to help.
The 77-year-old from Phaho Village in Limpopo said she was still in serious pain.
“It was in the evening when I came from the bushes. I didn’t see the hole, I then tripped and fell into it.
“I lay in the trench for several minutes. Blood was oozing from my leg. It was so painful,” she said.
Mosima spent 21 days at Helena Franz Hospital in Bochum.
She still depends on crutches to walk around, which means she cannot look after her livestock.
“I’m afraid that my cows will be stolen. I found someone to look after them, but I prefer to do that myself,” she said.
Her daughter Maria is taking care of her mum in the meantime.
Maria said they got hold of the contractor, but he just came once to see her mum’s condition and never helped with anything.
