WHEN Maria Masetla’s husband of 10 years asked her for permission to take a second wife, she refused.
But now the 40-year-old from Odi, near Mabopane in Tshwane, wishes she had made a different decision. She claims that she has been getting death threats since her divorce last February!
Maria said shortly after the divorce, she started getting strange phone calls.
“A woman would ask me if I was an African and when I said yes, she became angry. She said if I was a true African, I would have allowed my ex-husband to marry a second wife.”
Maria said she didn’t take the calls seriously. But in June, her problems increased when she started finding knives at her doorstep.
“It seems as if there is always someone watching me because even if I just go to a shop nearby, I find a knife when I come back,” she claimed.
“None of my neighbours sees this person, who has now started smearing muthi on my walls.”
Maria’s ex-husband told Daily Sun: “I asked her to allow me to marry a second wife and she refused.
“I respected that and moved on. What does she want from me?”
He claimed Maria was playing tricks to get back together with him.
“She should find a man and stop spreading lies,” he said.
Sangoma Mojasagage Lebepe advised Maria to get a strong sangoma to cleanse her yard.
