THE horrific murder of an off-duty constable did not kill the spirit of Eastern Cape cops.
Instead they show pride and dedication to their work.
On Friday cops paraded in front of a crowd at the City Hall in Port Elizabeth.
Police management encouraged them to use their weapons to protect themselves when they are attacked.
Provincial commissioner Lieutenant-General Celiwe Binta and the MEC for safety, security, liaison and transport Weziwe Tikana, promised to give the officers the support they need.
Binta said: “We ensure that our police get high quality training. This allows them to use their weapons and defend themselves if necessary.
“We also provide them with emotional support when they’ve been through a traumatic situation.”
Tikana said: “The fight against crime is everyone’s responsibility. Residents must join hands with the police. We’re aiming to have a safe festive season.”
The police are still hunting for the suspect who shot dead Constable Nomathamsanqa Tsitsi (36).
She was killed when she arrived at her home in Motherwell on the morning of 12 November.
She had just finished working night shift.
Captain Andre Beetge told Daily Sun: “We hope to arrest the killer soon. Anyone with information can call 041 407 6471.
The late constable’s memorial service will be held soon.
