LIMPOPO police arrested a 24-year-old woman who allegedly threw a new born baby inside a pit toilet in Ga-Rafiri in Zebediela outside Lebowakgomo.
The suspect will appear in the Magatle Periodical Court on a charge of attempted murder.
Police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the police were notified and reacted swiftly in rescuing the infant.
It is alleged the suspect's grandmother was anxiously alarmed by the baby's screams inside the pit toilet and immediately notified the police and the EMS.
The infant was rescued and taken to hospital after, but the baby boy died later on.
The Provincial Commissioner Lt. General Nneke Ledwaba condemned these acts of violence against new born babies by women especially duration of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign.
Ledwaba further sent a harsh warning to those taking part in this shocking acts, saying they will be dealt with harshly without compromise.
"Mothers are supposed to be the natures and protectors of children. It is now becoming a regular tendency and members of the community are advised to consult the helping professions for family problems and some are offering these services for free such as the Department of Social Development”, concluded General Ledwaba.
