Radio maestro, Thabo ‘Tbo Touch’ Molefe, says that he has come up with a solution to expensive data costs for fans who want to listen to his radio station.

In a groundbreaking initiative with Telkom, Touch has vowed to sponsor wifi hotspots in SA townships, which will be called “HoodSpots”.

Touch says he has been in talks with Telkom and they have agreed that ‘Hoodspots’ are the best way to provide alternative ways of making the internet accessible to people.

“TOUCH HD is gonna take the responsibility to flood townships just to make sure that access to data becomes a human right. And possibly the right people will join us. It is a costly exercise but it’s what we want to do, we want people to access TOUCH HD,” said Touch.

This comes after many have been questioning his move to digital when data is so expensive in SA.

Touch says that although it is free to stream TOUCH HD on MTN, he cannot guarantee the same thing for the other networks.

“I don’t work for any of the other networks, you can’t force networks to change their pricing models. You make and create awareness for the exorbitant prices of data.”

“But our campaign was never hostile towards networks, it was just to raise an alarm to say you charge less in other places,” said Touch.
