Internationally acclaimed actress and producer Terry Pheto had to cut her overseas trip short following the death of her father on Tuesday.
Terry posted on her Instagram account that she was heartbroken.
She had earlier posted pictures posing in front of popular tourist sites in Sydney, Australia where she is on holiday.
She had also revealed on Twitter that she had been shooting something special on Sunday.
In a statement, Terry’s manager Wesley Gainer confirmed the news of her father’s death. He said they were saddened and devastated by the loss.
“Terry thanks everyone who has wished her well. We ask that her time with her family at this stage be respected as they grieve the loss of their loved one.”
The cause of death was not revealed.
Last year Terry was nominated for best supporting actress at the British Independent Film Awards for her role in a movie presently on release. The film, A United Kingdom, follows the life of the first
president of Botswana, Seretse Khama. The lead role is played by British Nigerian actor David Oyelowo.
Khama caused an international stir in the late 1940s when he married a white woman from London, Ruth Williams.
In the movie, Ruth’s role is played by Rosamund Pike.
Terry stars as Khama’s sister, Naledi Khama.
The film opened s in Mzansi on 13 January.
