TWO of South Africa’s biggest sports fans are jetting off to Rio today – thanks to the Gauteng department of sport and recreation.

Mama-Joy Chauke and Saddam Maake couldn’t hide their excitement when they described how they were looking forward to supporting Mzansi’s athletes.

Mama-Joy told Daily Sun: “I’m so excited, all the nerves in my body seem to be dancing.

“I don’t even know how to explain the joy I feel in my heart. I never thought one day I’d be flying overseas because of my love and support for soccer. It never occurred to me that being loyal to my club Pirates, and the country’s Bafana, would present me with such a gift one day.”

Saddam, co-ordinator of the National African Football Supporters Association, has become a travelling veteran as a fan of his club Kaizer Chiefs.

He said: “I feel honoured whenever I’m given an opportunity to support my country’s athletes.

“I groom many supporters to become true sport supporters, especially in soccer and believe their chance is coming.”

Safa donated merchandise, while Sun Goddess sponsored Mama-Joy’s four outfits in the country’s colours. Jacques Grobbelaar of Stadium Management, as well as Amakhosi, donated Saddam’s travel bags.

The pair will return to the country when the Olympic Games end.
