Controversial television and radio presenter, Phat Joe has been pulled off the air by East Coast Radio for comments he made about Down Syndrome.

This after the dj kept joking that he keeps making the same mistakes on air because he was feeling a bit “Down syndromish” last week.

Last night, the radio station put out a statement on their Facebook page announcing that they would be taking him off the air for the rest of the week.

“As a well-known and well-loved KZN brand, we will always endeavour to protect the interests of our listeners. We disagree with the comments that Phat Joe has made over the past few days and have decided to take him off air, for the duration of this week. We will provide a further update as soon as we are in a position to do so,” the station said.

The comments made by Phat Joe, real name Majota Khambule, have since sparked outrage from listeners who are angered by the dj’s insensitive comments.

One parent of a child with Down Syndrome has taken the matter to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA).
