ALTHOUGH he was snubbed by the Metro FM Awards, K.O is making international strides!
The rapper whose real name is Ntokozo Mdluli will headline the Sounds from Africa stage on 19 March at the South by Southwest Festival, which takes place annually in Texas.
The event is an annual 11-day film and interactive media conference. It’s also one of the largest music festivals of its kind, which takes place mid-March in Austin, Texas, United States.
Not only will K.O be the only South African artist headlining the Sounds from Africa stage, but it is the first time a South African artist is booked for this festival.
This is viewed as a breakthrough for the South African music scene.
“Being tasked with representing your country on such a huge platform is in fact a tall order, but as an artist who has waited all his life for such an opportunity I’m determined and know that I will excel on that stage!
“This is literally a launching phase for my brand and South African hip hop in the US. And the idea is to make an indelible mark for us to be able solidify our presence that side,” he said.
The festival started in 1987 and has continued to grow in both scope and size each year. Other artists who have graced the festival stages include Cypress Hill, Erykah Badu, Foo Fighters, Ice Cube, J Cole, Metallica, Patti Smith, Snoop Dogg, Smokey Robinson & Willie Nelson to name a few.
This year will see the festival celebrating 29 years of existence.
