CLYTAINMENT’s first lady is making her mark at Durban pubs.

Young DJ Nocy, whose real name is Helen Gumede, is a resident DJ at both Umhlanga Ridge News Cafe and Exceptions Bar.

She also is a co-host and resident DJ on Durban Youth Radio.

The 28-year-old from Empola in Marianhill, Pinetown, was shown the ropes by DJs Clyd and KT.

DJ Nocy started deejaying in 2010 and specialises in deep and tribal house and techno.

“I was introduced to house music at an early age,” said DJ Nocy.

“That gave me hope and courage to familiarise myself with people like DJs Fresh, Ganyani and Vinny Da Vinci.”

She is in love with deep house music and the different DJs who work with her have acknowledged her good work.

In five years’ time she sees herself running her own radio show and a company that deals in sound hire and events.

The woman of many talents recently became the face of the Asinamali kasi label.

She said she is grateful each day for the love and support she’s getting from listeners, and to her mum.

“She always is 100% behind my dreams, as well as my friends, family and radio host Miss Liang,’’ she said.

“I believe this year is going to be better than last. I am into music to give my fans what they want.

“This is my year to bless deep house lovers.’’
