GOSPEL singer Dumi Mkokstad is presenting a new show called Amacilongo on DStv’s Dumisa TV.

The gospel show starts on Saturday 1 April.

Dumi will co-host the show with his best friend and award-winning gospel singer, Betusile Mcinga.

The Mbize hitmaker told SunBuzz he literally begged for the job.

“We had to beg and prove that we could do it,” said Dumi.

He added that he and Betusile visited the commercial TV channel soon after finding out about the new show.

“We heard through the grapevine that the channel was planning to launch a new show but that the producers were battling to find presenters.

“We begged management to give us the opportunity but they rejected our offer.

“We then recorded a demo and sent it to them. The next thing, we both got phonecalls telling us that we had the job.”

Betusile – who is expected to release his fourth album at the end of the month – said being on TV is a dream come true.

“This is just the beginning. My dreams have become a reality. We have already shot a few episodes and I have no doubt that viewers will be glued to their screens. They will see the other side of us.”

The show will be aired on Saturdays and Sundays at 9pm.

BADIMO Jazz Band will pay tribute to former radio man Mesh “Bra Mesh” Mapetla at the annual Premiership Jazz Concert on Sunday at the Molobane Estate Lodge in Zuurbekom, west of Joburg.

Band leader David “Mainline” Ngobeni said: “When you play for a predominantly jazz audience, you feel great inside. That’s how we feel right now.

“When you blow your horn, you do it with all your soul. It makes me proud that we’ll celebrate a great man.”

He said he would make sure he brought spare instruments for all seven members of the group, in case of mishaps.

Badimo is made up of Michael Kisto, Tabia, Ma’Soul and Sawubona Music Jam Band.

The legendary Mesh will be honoured through jazz, the genre that he popularised while still a presenter and compiler at Lesedi FM.

During his Sunday slot days at the station, jazz lovers would have their ears glued to the radio.

That’s how popular Mesh was.

Event organiser Terry Mokoena told SunBuzz: “This is an exclusive jazz concert dedicated to radio jazz presenters and jazz collectors in South Africa.

“Bra Mesh will be the first presenter to be honoured for his contribution in promoting jazz.

“Recently, he has been in and out of hospital, but he is feeling much better now after an operation.”
