ANDISIWE believes failure is part of the journey towards success.

Andisiwe Dweba (29) from Bovini Village in Tabankulu, Eastern Cape, who plays Getty in Generations – the Legacy, says it is okay to fail as long as you get up and try again.

She speaks of the time in 2012 when her career as an actress had slowed down.

“I wasn’t making progress. My mother started questioning my career choice. I even went to train as a chef,” said Andisiwe.

She worked at two hotels, preparing dinner and breakfast, but quit after a while.

“I focused on auditioning and making my acting career work.”

Her career started taking off when she got roles in commercials. Then she auditioned for the role of Priska in Generations – the Legacy.

While Zikhona Sodlaka got the role, Andisiwe landed the role of Getty, a young woman from Alexandra who grew up in a shebeen.

“Getty is not lucky in love.

“She does her job well but ends up in debt after getting promoted at work.”

Andisiwe said that as a young girl she fell in love with acting while at Victoria Girls’ Primary School in Grahamstown.

“I was in the school plays and a member of the junior orchestra, playing the recorder,” she said.

On Saturdays she would train in drama and dance, where she learnt how to perform and be confident on stage.

After matric she studied acting at Afda in Cape Town.

She also studied at Varsity College and obtained an advanced diploma in acting for camera.

In her last year at college, she got her first TV job as a bullying school girl in Khululeka Siyavota.

“I acted alongside legends such as Joe Mafela and Tina Jaxa.”

She said great actors are true to the character they are playing and the storyline to help the audience relate to the character.

“Do not be afraid of your own baggage,” she advised.

“You don’t know what the next person’s baggage is. Face everything that life puts you through and be courageous.”

Recently, viewers got to see Wandile, played by Chiedza “Chi” Mhende, and Getty falling in love.
