KAIZER Chiefs goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo doesn’t mess around!
Last Saturday, at FNB Stadium, his miracle saves sent Amakhosi through to the Telkom Knockout final.
And coach Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba wanted him to face Angola’s strikers for the 2018 World Cup qualifier played on Friday.
But Brilliant told his club he was rushing off to Durban on an urgent family business. Bafana won without him!
Chiefs informed the South Africa Football Association (Safa), and the goalie missed the Bafana camp on Sunday.
But the wonder goalie must have finished his family business early – for he was seen partying with friends late on Sunday night!
A Sunday Sun eyewitness, who saw him at Eyadini Lounge in Umlazi, said: “He was walking tall and celebrating Chiefs’ win with friends and babes. If indeed there was a problem in the family or a commitment he had to attend, I doubt he would have been with us until so late.
“He didn’t look worried at all and never mentioned anything that had happened in his family,” said the source.
Another witness said: “The boy chose not to go to camp but to party with us. Here’s a picture of him and me. He looks like he doesn’t have family problems. I’m so happy to have the picture!”
According to Chiefs’ spokesman, Vina Maphosa, after last Saturday’s game all the players got time off – until they reported for training on Wednesday.
“Where they went and what they did from Saturday till Tuesday is none of our business. They didn’t need permission from the club,” said Vina.
Asked about what kept Brilliant out of the Bafana camp on Sunday, Vina said: “I’m not answering you on that one. Call Barney Kujane at Safa.”
Some said Brilliant was angered because Mashaba called him as back-up after Itumeleng Khune got injured.
Sources said Brilliant snubbed Safa as he didn’t want to be a replacement for an injured player. But late on Sunday Safa was looking for him, according to a Durban source.
Approached for comment last week, Safa’s Dominic Chimhavi said: “Let’s not talk about negative stuff. Let’s be positive about Bafana. We’re playing a crucial game against Angola. Anyway, Brilliant is not even in the squad.”
Brilliant couldn’t be reached
for comment.
Vina Maphosa refused to comment on the matter.
