THE entertainment industry in Nelson Mandela Bay is mourning one of its most popular event organisers.

DJ Tshamlambo of Mondetainment was gunned down in KwaZakhele in Port Elizabeth on Saturday night. The shooting took place at Fura’s tavern in Ndokwenza moments after his last performance.

An eye witness said Monde was gunned down after performing, Monde bought him cooldrink, and they stood outside the Tavern yard. A young woman approached Monde and they spoke.

“While we were standing there, two guys appeared and just shot him. They quickly disappeared, moments later a car pulled up and picked up the woman and they all drove away in a green Toyota Tazz,” he said.

The DJ – whose real name was Monde Tshamlambo – was known for organising events in local pubs and taverns, bringing national artists to Port Elizabeth.

He was also the manager of Lavuthibhayi Women’s Cultural Ensemble.

His father, Tony Mubayina (61) told Daily Sun: “The last time I saw him was at a funeral on Saturday morning. I was shocked when his cousin, Ngqoza, later brought me the sad news that he had been shot.

“When I went to the scene, my son was lying in a pool of blood.”

He was recently involved in organising events such as the Nelson Mandela Bay Cultural Festival, The Bay West Mall opening and the War on Water Leaks programme.

Sipho Ngwema of Harmocept Events said: “This is definitely a massive setback for the entertainment sector in the Bay.

Monde was very passionate about his city and its social life.

“The bullets didn’t only kill him but possibly a number of artists he would have discovered.”

Mminawa Mbombo, owner of Platinum Lounge, said: “He was a miracle maker who turned our dreams into reality. He delivered as promised on our events.”

Police’s Constable Mncedi Mbombo said a murder case was opened but no arrests had been made.
