LATE former Joburg mayor Mpho Moerane was killed many times before his actual death.

That was according to family spokesman Mike Maile, lambasting the rumours doing the rounds over the past few days that he had died – despite them saying he was still alive and in a critical condition.

The rumours, that were damaging to the family, were circulating on various social media platforms, and it was alleged that some came from fellow party members.

Maile told reporters: “It is unfortunate that Moerane was killed many times before being certified dead by those who are qualified to do so. I don’t know, neither will I understand why people continue spreading rumours despite us giving them an assurance that he was still alive. It beats me; I do not understand and will never.”

He added that this traumatised the family.

“It was a very sad and unfortunate happening that I don’t wish upon any other person.”

Maile added that people should verify information and think of the possible consequences of their unverified information.

“I hope the abuse of social media stops because you hurt people. You cannot post and repost unverified information. Before posting, ask yourself if it is worth posting and has been verified,” he said.
