Two men aged 33 and 38 are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Monday, 27 June.
They are facing charges of attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, reckless and negligent driving.
This is after a shooting incident that occurred near Pellesier in Bloemfontein.
On Friday 24 June Parkweg police received a lookout about a heavily armed suspect who just robbed a liquor store in Aliwal North.
Cops’ spokesperson Sergeant Sinah Mpakane said an activation plan was immediately executed and two cars, fitting the same description circulated, were spotted near the Casino.
“Police attempted to stop both cars, a White Mercedes Benz and Maroon Toyota Hi-Lux. Both cars failed to stop, and a chase ensued with the suspects firing shots toward the police. Police retaliated,” Mpakane said in a statement.
Police managed to intercept the Toyota Hilux and two suspects were arrested on the scene while the third one managed to escape. Inside the car, cops managed to recover two 9mm firearms, two rifles, an R5 Cartridge along with four magazines and live rounds of ammunition.
The second car, a Mercedes-Benz was spotted at Bayswater after a long chase and one cartridge was found inside the car with a bullet hole in it.
Police are still on the lookout for the third suspect.
