1. Make a splash at a public pool

If running on your own is daunting and you need a bit of coaxing, then social Parkruns are just for you. They are free, timed and lots of fun for the whole family. Walkers are also welcome over the marked-out 5 km course. They take place in scenic parks and reserves across the country and the world, and all ages and fitness levels are welcome. 3. Cycle to fitness
The outdoors beckon, even if you don’t have a fancy bike. Visit www.bicylesouth.co.za to discover cycling routes and trails around the country. Find the most amazing places to cycle — from mountain bike trails to family-friendly leisure rides. All you need to do is download the accessible maps and GPS onto your phone to keep on track.
4. Take a hike
Exercise while hiking and soak in some of Mzansi’s picturesque sights. Walk at your own pace and turn this into a social outing by packing a picnic basket and inviting friends. A small donation might be required to keep the park in tip-top condition.
