  • Valentine’s Day falls on a Wednesday this year but you can still make a date-night outfit work.
  • Colour can affect your mood and shades of pink are calming hues.
  • Go for a flowy printed dress, a classic blazer set or something a little sexier for the month of love.

If you haven’t noticed yet, surely the stacks of curated chocolates, teddy bears and sparkling wines in shades of pink at the front of almost every store will remind you that Valentine’s Day is nearing.

Just because it falls on a Wednesday this year, doesn't mean you can’t get into the spirit of the month of love with your style.

No matter where you are in your love life and whether you enjoy or rue 14 February, embracing the fun and carefree nature that is the special holiday can give you that much-needed midweek boost.

What better way to feel good than by looking good?

The classic Valentine’s Day colours like red, white and pink maintain their popularity since different colours can impact our moods, behaviours and feelings.

Psychology educator and author Kendra Cherry explains that soft colours like pink “[are] thought to be a calming colour associated with love, kindness and femininity”.

Whether you’re into a more comfortable, stylish and body-hugging dress perfect for daytime and evening activities like Generations: The Legacy star Neo Rapetsoa or you enjoy playing around with prints like Muvhango actress Millicent Makhado, there’s something for everybody to see themselves rocking.

Let’s explore some Valentine’s Day style that’s perfect for the office – and after:

1. The body con

Feel sexy and sophisticated in the classic body con dress that’s not only professional but accentuates the body in all the right places.

Going bold with bright solid colours or staying chic in white is always a classic go-to outfit for daytime vibes and evening glamour.

2. Keeping it casual

Who said casual day is only for Fridays?

Spice up your regular jeans and shirt combo with cute tucked in top or blouse in the Valentine’s Day colour.

3. Playing with print

To fully embrace Valentine’s Day, incorporate different shades of red, pink or white prints and patterns into your look to make a statement.

To steal the show, throw on a flowy oversized dress with fun and colourful prints from florals to abstract shapes as a way to brighten up your mood.

4. The blazer and two-piece set

A blazer and two-piece set is the quintessential work day look and you can add a bit of flair to your outfit by being bold in red

To add more allure to your Valentine’s ensemble, try matching your lipstick or lip gloss to the shade of your outfit. Don’t forget to reapply your chosen colour in between eating and drinking to ensure that you’re camera ready for those Valentine’s Day picture-perfect moments.

5. Something sexy for later

When the 9 to 5 ends, it’s time to feel a little sexy. You don’t have to be boo’d up to make yourself feel good in some show stopping lingerie.

Under your work ‘fit, a lacy body suit or even your favourite matching underwear set will give you something sneaky to smile about.
