  • Women have been a great contribution to MaXhosa Africa's success.
  • Because of this, the brand has created more items for women in its autumn/winter 2024 collection.
  • Maxhosa Africa will showcase its collection at its upcoming MXS festival in partnership with Mercedes-Benz South Africa.

Inspired by the beauty of South Africa's Xhosa culture, MaXhosa Africa continues to carve its unique place in global luxury fashion.

Opening a new store in New York, partnering with Mercedes-Benz South Africa and showcasing at the Paris Fashion Week are some of the astounding milestones the brand has reached in the first three months of 2024.

The brand still has greater plans that its supporters can look forward to such as the MXS Culture Festival that will take place on 23 March 2024. Fashion, food and good music will be the mandate, having stars such as Oscar Mbo perform with a live band and MaXhosa Africa showcasing its autumn/winter 2024 collection.

Apart from the food, fashion and music, Maxhosa Africa will also be showcasing it latest addition to its home collection, tiles.

"We are in the process of designing tiles. It's still hush hush. So, basically at the festival you'll be seeing a snapshot of tiles that we are making and the tiles will be manufactured right here in centurion," says the founder of Maxhosa Africa, Laduma Ngxokolo.

Breaking into homeware isn't new to the brand, it already added curtains, cushions and rugs to its collection.

MaXhosa Africa's success and evolution did not come overnight. Laduma's love for patterns and garments is a deep-rooted passion that depicts both his lifestyle growing up in South Africa and furthering his studies, studying textiles and other fashion elements. From the large international support to the even larger local support, Maxhosa Africa continues to reach great heights.

What has been eye-opening for Laduma is the great reception the brand has had towards within the female market. Initially, the brand had been more male-centric, creating luxury clothing inspired by the Xhosa initiation ceremony.

Media personality Unathi Nkayi shares, "I remember one conversation, [Black Coffee] called you and I aside and he said 'for someone who has designed a range for amadoda, men, specifically, it's so good to see women fall in love with your brand'."

Unathi was the MC at the festival announcement at Zwartkops Raceway in partnership with Mercedes Benz South Africa.

"Making womenswear wasn't part of the initial plan. I only started doing women's wear in 2014. Years followed, right now 65 percent [of our clothing] are for women. So, women have literally dictated our portfolio," Laduma says.

From accessories to skirts, women can expect more items to purchase from its upcoming collection.

The brand has also been kept alive by women behind the scenes who ensure that every thread and fabric is prepared most sensitively, paying close attention to the final product

Most importantly, the brand is a continuous vision of Laduma's mother and that is one of the aspects that keep him inspired and motivated. This is evident with Laduma naming their Maxhosa Africa store in Gqeberha after his mother.
