They've been making music for almost two decades together. With 18 years under their belt and even more to come, they are excited about what the future holds.

And there's no one they would rather celebrate with than their loyal fans, who have been with them every step of the way.

Some of their fans and followers have been wondering where they are since they reunion. They had all pursued solo careers.

But Buhlebendalo Mda, Ntsika Ngxanga and Luphindo Ngxanga - who are famously known as The Soil - say they've been working on their new album this whole time.

In a Q&A with TRUELOVE, they admit that they’ve kept their fans waiting too long, but the wait is over. They are back in their element.

“We are finalising the new album, singles have been lined up based on the feeling each song has given us. Our family of supporters have waited a long time but we promise that with this offering, the wait will be worthwhile,” they say.

The acapella group celebrate 18 years of making music together.

“This is truly a milestone for us, one that we don’t take lightly. We’ve always wanted to take our music from Soweto the place where it was birthed and place it firmly in the global spotlight and over the years, we’ve achieved that and with this new upcoming album, it means that journey and that mission gets to continue.”

They tell us that respect and appreciation for one another are what built The Soil to stay strong for this long.

“We recognise, respect and appreciate one another’s ever-changing and growing characteristics and traits. We learn from each other constantly and at times it takes longer to align ourselves but the patience that we give to the process benefits our dynamics or relationships a great [deal].”

And for them, this is worth celebrating.

“We hardly celebrate ourselves because we are always in “work mode” looking to deliver an incredible experience one after another but there is importance in pausing a bit and taking stock of all that has been achieved and with us celebrating over a “decade” in this music industry gives us a chance to do that.”

Going down memory lane, the Joy (We are family) hitmakers say they still remember their first day in the studio as if it was yesterday.

“We definitely remember each recording and the atmosphere of that very first song was filled with excitement, anxiety, and an overwhelming desire for resonance. We just wanted people to listen to the stories we were telling and everything else that would soon come after that was a blessing,” they say when describing the day.

They say their performance at the Apollo Theatre in the United States of America remains the highlight of their career.

“It stands out because even when we started the group back then, we did have it on our wish list and it coming true more than once was a cherry on top.”

And after 18 years, they tell us that the future is getting brighter than ever. They’ve got their hands full of surprises and are aiming for bigger and better.

“Most definitely yet again history beckons and this grace laced institution is heading that call. We have an even bigger appetite for the global market, you will see more self-staged productions that also borrow from the magic that we’ve experienced on our solo journeys, and there will be even more music and unexpected collaborations.

“What’s left now is for us to officially announce dates, launches, single titles and album title. That’s how close we are. Here’s to a magical journey.”
