The 2022 All A Woman Needs (AAWN) Festival saw memorable performances by some of South Africa’s most iconic musicians as TRUELOVE celebrates 50 years.
Makhadzi, a multi-award-winning musician and TRUELOVE April/May 2022 cover star, blew the crowd away with her electric performance. Following her showstopper, Makhadzi said, “I would like to wish a happy birthday to TRUELOVE magazine … thank you for taking care of us.”
Zahara had a soulful performance that left the crowd wanting more. She sang classic, soulful songs accompanied by her iconic guitar and a saxophonist then completed her show with a teaser to some of her hits, including Loliwe.
The performances were not complete without Jamali member and solo artist Mariechan. She performed a classic from her days with her group Jamali, her latest music including a rendition of K.O’s hit song Sete.
Leading up to the performances, the hazardous DJ Hazel made sure there wasn't a dull moment on the day.
On the lawns Mall Of Africa in Johannesburg, the AAWN festival goers lost themselves in the performances and danced the afternoon away to the performances on stage. Under the leadership of the esteemed festival MC Leera Mthethwa, our lovely guest danced in unbelievable unison to Beyoncé's song Cuff It and took part in the viral #CuffItChallenge – culminating an unforgettable day of sisterhood and Black girl joy.
One of the attendees, Basetsana Hlongwane – who came with two of her best friends, said: “What I enjoyed the most is their company, of course, and just the experience – it’s a nice, chilled place. So, thank you TRUELOVE.”
Another attendee, Lorna, says: “I’m here hanging out with everybody at the TRUELOVE Festival. It’s amazing, the sun is out, the ladies are beautiful, the cars are here – we’re having a really super awesome time with the hampers … free gifts, it’s wonderful!”
