According to the family statement, Nomonde - who was a gospel singer made up one part of the Mkutukana trio which released their gospel album in 2016 - leaves behind two children, four siblings and the community of Phumlani Village in the Eastern Cape who strongly believed in her dreams.
Her death comes seven years after her brother, Mbuyiseli Mkutukana was gunned down in 2014 after being caught in a crossfire between rival gangs in a nearby village.
“The Mkutukana family is thankful for the messages of condolences and asks for privacy in this time of grief,” the statement read.
In an Instagram post, Zahara posted an image of her and her late sister and wrote about the last time she saw her.
“So yesterday was my last time seeing your face when you were at work yhini Masthathu mntakamama. Phofu andikwazi nokulila ngoba kum usaphila (I can’t even cry because to me you’re still alive). Lala Ndebe Nkulu kaTata,” she wrote.
Condolences to the Mkutukana family.
