Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to saddle up.

The 2024 Durban July theme has officially been announced as ‘Ride the Wave’ through an unexpected act of mischief.

Graffitti art painted across the Hollywoodbets billboard on Sandton Drive in Johannesburg turned out to be the latest innovative advertising campaign for one of the biggest horse racing events on the continent.

Durban-based artist Shaun Oakley, who goes by Damn Vandal, completed the 30-metre-wide mural showcasing the true essence of the glamour, prestige and sportsmanship of the Durban July.

This year’s event will be on Saturday, 6 July 2024, at the Hollywoodbets Greyville racecourse and with tickets going live on April after a spectacular theme reveal, it’s sure to be one not to miss.

Officially announcing the Ride the Wave theme on their website, Hollywoodbets encourages eager attendees to immerse themselves in waves of creativity.

“Pressed white breeches and brightly coloured silks, mirror a tapestry of towels on the beach. Marvel at the power of nature, it leaves one in awe, beyond speech,” their annual poem attached to each year’s theme reads.
