Fate will find a way, this is what TV personality and model Nqobile Khwezi can nod to after getting a call that was a pleasant surprise.

TRUELOVE chats to her about her newest TV gig, an adventure that best aligns with her life right now - Tropika Island of Treasure Season 11.

“I have a funny story. A week prior to getting a phone call from [Tropika], I had dropped off someone at the airport and I went into the Engen garage where the Tropika aisle is.”

She got herself what she calls an uplifting and nostalgic drink. Days later, she received a call inviting her to be part of this season’s show in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

“Definitely, I would love to do it,” Nqobile answered.

Competitive spirit

The SuperSport presenter says this 1 million island competition could not have come at a better time. “I am in a space in my life where I want to challenge myself to be fitter and be a healthier version of myself. This kind of opportunity puts you in a position where you kind of have to be. I am in a space where I want to do things that get me out of my comfort zone. Perfectly aligned,” the 26-year-old says.

Viewers are in for a treat. They are set to be captivated by bold personalities, fierce competitors, and hilarious sidekicks. Nqobile will join host Zanele Potelwa and other famous faces such Omuhle Gela, Hungani Ndlovu, Ndavi Nokeri.

The highly competitive show is a mental, emotional and physical game.

“As much as it would be nice to win, I want to have a really good time, I have a competitive spirit, [I want to] have a good time and make some memories and try out different things. It would be nice to challenge my body because I am really into fitness. I want to see what I can do in terms of physicality and my mind. I am an over-thinker. In terms of a strategy, if I can go in there with the attitude of having fun, I think that will be good enough because if I walk away having not won, I still walkway knowing I gave it my best and that’s my strategy.”

Being teachable

“I always say I will try everything once and see how it goes,” she says.  When it comes to work ethic, the model says she believes in striving to always do her best and she admits, it won’t look the same every day.

This is what has gotten her where she is, “Put your head down, do your work and do it to the best of your ability. Find something bigger than you that you believe in. Remain a rookie in life, you will go further. Don’t be unteachable.”

Nqobile says her mom instilled in her that everyone she sits within any room can teach her something and that treating people with respect is important.

This is also an industry that has allowed her to have conversations with legends of the game, and people who understand sports from an experience perspective which is very different from simply understanding football jargon.

“I would be so hard on myself that why don’t I know certain things, I would be so frustrated in myself. Being in the industry has me realise and understand that there are so many perspectives to sports,” she adds. You can expect to see her rise in the sporting industry, fashion and beauty space. “Maybe sharing my personality with you guys. Show a bit of my crazy self.”
