Gqom superstar, Babes Wodumo has been laying low after having a controversial 2019 where she was embroiled in domestic abuse scandals and allegations with her partner, Mampintsha – but now she’s back with a new album and has recently shared details about her life in an interview.
Speaking to the controversial MacGyver Mukwevho on his Podcast and Chill with Mac G show, Babes shared how she would misuse the millions she’d make through gigs and spend it on expensive weaves because she was young.
“When Wololo became a hit song I was very young, around 18/19. So when the fame came to me I was still a child. I didn’t know anything about saving money…had fame come to me now at this age, I would’ve done a lot of things differently,” she said in IsiZulu.

The hitmaker then went on to explain how she made a lot of mistakes at the peak of her career because of being young.
“I used to make a lot of money. My booking fee at the time was around R120 000 0 R150 000…so in a weekend I’d have about 8 gigs and that’s about R1 million,” she began to explain.
“I made a lot of mistakes such as not paying my dancers and spending that money on expensive weaves, alcohol and drinking with friends,” she said.

When Mac G asked whether Mampintsha had not been guiding her, she responded by saying that it was not easy for him to tell her what to do since they were in a relationship together.
Babes went on to discuss how she grew up, how she met Mampintsha, their scandals, drug rumours and her music career.
She concluded the interview by advising aspiring artists not to focus on their relationships but to focus on their careers and to save money.
“…work hard to the extent that when a man enters your life, he cannot tell you what decisions you should make,” she said
