Sindi Dlathu - The River bags an international Emmy nomination

1Magic’s The River has been nominated for the 47th International Emmy Awards. The drama, which quickly became a household name for its exceptional cast and acting talent, has proved to be world class quality ever since its debut on the small screen over a year ago.

The River is set to compete against the best in the business internationally under the category Best Telenovela for 2019. The River is no rookie to the winner’s table, having scooped a whopping 11 Golden Horns at the South African Film and Television Awards earlier this year, including Best Telenovela, Best Actor and Best Actress on the list.

“Gwydion Beynon and I are really thrilled by this nomination as it’s a continuous testament that South African stories are as relevant as any other global stories,” says Phathu Makwarela, one of the show’s executive producers and co-owner of Tshedza Pictures. He adds, “We are humbled by this acknowledgement from the International Emmy Awards, and very proud of our cast and crew, who continuously go out of their way to give their heart to the show. The River is a team effort, and we hope to keep telling amazing stories!”

The cast, which boasts with the likes of Sindi Dlathu, Hlomla Dandala and Presley Chweneyagae, never fails to deliver the best in drama, keeping us on the edge of our seats every weeknight. The River revolves around the feud between the Mokoenas and the Dlaminis, two families from different backgrounds. The families are united by the unearthing of a diamond in Cullinan, east of Pretoria.

You can catch The River every weekday at 8 pm on DStv’s 1Magic channel 103.
