Have The PSL Gone Too Far With Chiefs?

accreditation

Towards the end of 2021, Kaizer Chiefs started to experience a Covid-19 outbreak with cases rising daily. The Soweto giants became crippled, with no less than 52 players, staff, and coaches testing positive for COVID. This caused the club to write proposal letters to the PSL and SAFA, requesting that four fixtures be postponed as Amakhosi could not field a team. This came as quite a shock to the Southern African footballing world, as this had never been done before. But if you look into the matter deeper, you could say that Chiefs had good intentions behind this request. Amakhosi were no-shows for the matches against Cape Town City and AmaZulu.

However, the PSL seems to see no good intentions, as on the 12th of Jan 2022, the League officially charged the the Glamour Boys for failing to honor two of these fixtures, and on Friday 21 January 2022, the PSL will decide what punishment Kaizer Chiefs will receive, with the club ready to fight the case.

On the latest episode of the Fan Reaction Show, Amakhosi Fans debate whether their beloved outfit deserves to be punished after merely ‘following the law’ because they failed to honor the fixtures due to a mass COVID outbreak. Fans express their outrage as they believe that Chiefs should be praised for protecting other teams and their families.
