Football teams in Cyprus and Libya are interested in a South African striker, according to insiders privy to information.

Youngster Tristan Nikitaridis had played in the South African league for Baroka FC and then for the University of Pretoria up to the end of last season.

Siya sources close to the player have indicated there is also interest from local teams, but that his representatives prefer a European move.

The sources added that Nikitaridis was supposed to join La Masia in the past but due to an injury he could not join them. He's currently linked with clubs in Cape Town as well as Magesi FM.

"He has attracted interest in Cyprus. He was on top of his game before his injury but now he is training and fully fit. There were local teams interested in his services but his representatives are looking at the Cyprus interest. But there is also another interest in Libya. It will all depend on which team makes a good offer from the look of things," said the Siya source.

A second Siya source discussed how there has been interest from other DStv Premiership teams in the player and how Europe is a more attractive possibility for him.

"A Cape Town club was the first to inquire about him but nothing came up (after that). I don't think that move would work even for next season. That's why I am saying that the Cyprus and Libya interest makes more sense and could happen at the start of the new season," the second Siya source observed.

When contacted for comment the player's agent Warren Swartz of ProAthlete Management agency confirmed interest from abroad but could not reveal the teams involved.

"That's true. We have received inquiries from both Europe and Africa but we can't say much at the moment until something happens. But, yes, the interest is there," Swartz confirmed.
