Orlando Pirates’ interest in Royal AM star Shaune Mogaile is likely to be deflected, the Siya crew has been informed.

For some time, Pirates have been linked with the influential winger but there have been complications for him to make the move, including the KwaZulu-Natal club’s transfer ban.

Sources have indicated that Thwihli Thwahla have been open to cashing in on the 28-year-old but have been affected in their plans by the transfer ban imposed on the club by FIFA.

Following their contractual dispute with former Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic which led to their first transfer ban, the Pietermaritzburg-based side was handed a second one for a similar incident involving ex-Mamelodi Sundowns defender Ricardo Nascimento.

As a result, the club has been prohibited from signing players and therefore those stars that have been key in their set-up have been unable to move.

“Royal AM is doing everything to keep Shaune Mogaila in the team for longer. The club is in a tough situation with the transfer ban and is making everything possible to convince  Mogaila to stay. The negotiations are still ongoing,” said the source.

“It is true that Pirates have been interested in the player, and there was also talk of Kaizer Chiefs monitoring him at some point. But it looks like the player will be staying with Royal AM beyond this season because of the current situation,” the source said.

Mogaila has started all 15 matches for Royal AM this season and has been one of the star performers.
