Moroka Swallows chairman David Mogashoa has explained the club's decision to let go of strikers Mwape Musonda, Evans Rusike and Waseem Isaacs.

The Dube Birds have been busy leading up to the new season, bringing in players, as well as a new coach in Steve Komphela to improve on last term's eighth place finish.

They will go into the new campaign without the services of strikers Mwape Musonda, Evans Rusike and Waseem Isaacs, while former Kaizer Chiefs defender Yagan Sasman has also left.

Five goals were scored between these strikers through the season, leaving the Dube Birds no chance but to let them go at the end of June. Musonda scored three goals and Isaacs bagged two, with Rusike failing to find the back of the net after the club was able to register him in January when their transfer ban was lifted.

"Musonda has left, Waseem Isaacs has left, Yagan Sasman has left and Evans Rusike has left. That's three strikers, but the coach (Steve Komphela) is saying they've been here, but how many goals have they scored? We looked at that and said maybe we need to find another striker that might assist us in adding value," Mogashoa told the Siya crew.

"You look at the minutes that they played and the goals they scored. If I were to recall somebody from the people that have left, I'd maybe try Waseem Isaacs because I think he scored like two goals. You look at what you are paying the players and what value they are adding - two goals in 32 or 35 games (correct number is 26 games) is not a good return on investment. You need a striker who will give you good numbers."

Swallows, who have brought in the likes of Andile Jali, Dumisani Zuma, Keenan Phillips and Lantshene Phalane, will have a smaller squad this season to ensure they stick within their budget.

"In our squad now, we are sitting on 23. Our target is 28, at the most. I said to the manager that we must be careful and analyse what we have, because there is still another window (in January), so we can't rush to close and sign every player now and then you only realise afterwards that you signed the wrong player, because it does happen. Because in the next window, you might need to reinforce. I know they are interested in a striker because our only striker now is Kagiso Malinga, which will be a bit of a problem, in case he gets injured."
