The lawyer representing Moroka Swallows in their case with the Premier Soccer League over the failure to honour the two fixtures in late December, Leruma Thobejane has come down hard on Cape Town Spurs.

Early this week, Spurs wrote a letter to the league calling for strong action against the Dube Birds over the fixtures with Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows which weren’t honoured.

Swallows have since been charged by the league and on Thursday was found guilty for misconduct and bringing the league into disrepute with a walkover handed to both Sundowns and Arrows and the club fined R1 million with R600 000 of that suspended and R400 000 payable immediately.

“You know, that letter shouldn’t even be looked at it or considered because firstly, it's not representing the NSL judicial processes which is not good which is wrong,” Thobejane told Sports Night Amplified with Andile.

“Secondly, Cape Town Spurs is not a party to these proceedings we had today hence they were not there and I don’t want to deal with that and as a lawyer not representing Moroka Swallows I believe their letter doesn’t even deserve mentioning,” he added.

In the letter the Urban Warriors penned to the league, the club demanded the ‘imposition of severe actions such as deduction of points and relegation to a lower division’.

Thobejane notes that it’s embarrassing for the Urban Warriors, who are at the foot of the table to try and (according to him) interfere in the judicial processes of the league’s NSL handbook.

“I cannot argue with anyone about that letter because it’s embarrassing for someone to write a letter, trying to interfere with the judicial processes and independence to the judiciary of the NSL,” Thobejane said.

Thobejane has become a well-known figure in the legality of football matters in South Africa.

On the other hand Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou believes that these matters involving Swallows which effects other clubs, should be communicated seriously in a manner that his club has done.
