PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA - FEBRUARY 24: Bradley Grobler of SuperSport United celebrates his 100th goals with Jamie Webber

SuperSport United striker Bradley Grobler has admitted that 12 goals for the DStv Premiership top scorer is not good enough, but there is one thing that gives him hope for the future when it comes to the golden boot race.

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile and Cape Town City's Khanyisa Mayo shared the golden boot award this season after finishing the campaign on 12 goals. Grobler bagged 10 goals in the league and was the top scorer for SuperSport, as he surpassed the 100-goal mark in the PSL during the past campaign.

The experienced striker feels he and Shalulile have pushed each other quite well over the last few seasons and he is delighted to see that there are other players coming up to make the golden boot race intriguing. This season, Mayo, Etiosa Ighodaro, Monnapule Saleng and Ranga Chivaviro all finished on double figures and had a realistic chance of getting the top scorer award had they taken some of their opportunities they had in front of goal.

"You look at Peter now who has also got the 100 (goals). A lot of people looked at that as pressure, but it's good. I think the last few seasons, bar last season where I had injuries, I think we've pushed each other. It's good for football and it's good for us. We have a good relationship and it's good to have people who are pushing you. You look at this season now where we had 12 goals, which is not good enough. We've got to be honest with ourselves and all of us strikers would agree with that. But there is a bigger crop of players who are scoring and competing for that golden boot. Hopefully within the next couple of years we can all push each other," said Grobler, who is hoping to one day become the all-time top scorer in the PSL.

"As a striker, you want to score goals. Any striker that says they don't is lying. This season I played 28 out of 30 games and I felt good. I felt fit and most importantly I felt like I was enjoying myself. That is definitely a target of mine. I still have a couple of more years to go and I'd love to achieve that."

Grobler will be staying with SuperSport for another season, with the club expected to announce a one-year contract extension in the coming weeks. After scoring 10 goals this season, he will be determined to do more next term.

"It's always nice to win top goal scorer. I am a striker, I am here to score goals. But it's not to say I am happy about it. I think 10 goals in the league this season...I'd like to score more, to be completely honest with you. But at the same time, it was a good season for the club. We finished in a position that we would have been happy with before the season started and also it was tough. As much as I enjoy playing for Gavin, it's tough. It's a lot of hard work, but it's something I enjoy. It may not just be about helping the team score, but helping the team defensively."
