Former Mamelodi Sundowns player Alois Bunjira has explained why he feels the club has what it takes to complete an African Football League and CAF Champions League double this season.

Sundowns will be back in Champions League action this weekend, taking on Tanzanian giants Young Africans in the quarterfinals first leg away from home.

Sundowns may have moved on from last season's heartbreaking semi-final exit at the hand of Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca, but it would no doubt be on their minds as their knockout phase campaign begins this weekend.

The club certainly believes they have what it takes to go all the way in the competition and will take lessons from last season's disappointment as they look to win another continental title this season, after clinching the inaugural African Football League title last year.

Bunjira, who believes Sundowns has the best squad of the eight teams left in the Champions League, has backed Sundowns to get past Young Africans and then anything can happen from there.

"If you look at the way South Africa played at AFCON, and to think that the majority of the players were Mamelodi Sundowns players, it looks solid. Sundowns look solid and I am confident," Bunjira said to the Siya crew.

"They will win the quarterfinals against Yanga and they will be in the semi-finals and anything can happen from there. I believe they have a strong side that can win. The way they are playing is top notch. When I look at the teams that are left in the Champions League right now, I think Sundowns has the best players when it comes to technical ability. They have the best players who are comfortable on the ball and are very skilful and very intelligent. Sundowns have the best team in the Champions League right now."
