Known for his role as the deputy president of one of South Africa’s well-known political parties, the United Democratic Movement, Nqabayomzi Kwankwa is also a passionate football supporter and is following Kaizer Chiefs locally.

Kwankwa isn’t too happy about the current state of affairs at Amakhosi and would like to see the club return to its rightful place in Mzansi by winning trophies again like it used to happen in the "old days".

The astute leader has revealed details on the meeting he and his party had with PSL and Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza, as well as Kaizer Chiefs supremo Kaizer Motaung.

“I think what is good is that more and more teams are beginning to grow their support base and it’s no longer only about Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. Chiefs and Pirates are obviously the teams with the biggest support in the country. But there are more and more clubs growing their support base like Sekhukhune United and other teams and even those with limited resources are able to get sizeable crowds,” said Kwankwa, speaking to the Siya crew.

“There was a time when the PSL had challenges with some issues of legislation and policies and they were talking to various stakeholders. We as the UDM happened to be among the stakeholders that the league spoke to about those issues. Chincha Guluva (Motaung) and Mr. Khoza came to our national office and one of the things they said was that they considered themselves to be responsible for the country’s happy index. That’s because football is followed by a lot of people,” he said.

“Because they are both from the two hugely supported clubs in the country and are therefore responsible for the happy index of the country, I said to them they still needed to make sure that our country’s happy index was at the right level. I said that because if those two teams lose, probably more than half of football supporting people become miserable. That’s the message I would like to send to Chincha Guluva and Mr. Khoza,“ concluded Kwankwa.
