Itumeleng Khune is yet to kick a ball for Kaizer Chiefs this year – but the veteran goalkeeper is pushing to reclaim his spot in the team.

Khune’s last appearance in a Chiefs jersey came back in September last year, in a 1-0 Soweto Derby loss.

Since then, the 36-year-old was slapped with a suspension from the team and subsequently sent on a corrective programme, which he has since completed.

Now that he is eligible for selection again, Khune has set his sights on the Chiefs number one jersey which is currently occupied by Bruce Bvuma.

Interestingly, Khune has only three months left on his current contract with the club, which is set to expire in June – but ‘Mzansi’s finest’ has set his sights on returning to the pitch.

“The next chapter? Work hard, get back in the team and stay fit and challenge for the number one position again,” Khune told SuperSport.

“But I have to give credit to the goalkeeping department and more especially to Bruce Bvuma, who's been doing tremendously well for the club. He has kept seven clean sheets in eight matches. So I wish him everything of the best and he must just keep on doing what he's been doing, which helps the club to get back to greater heights,” he said.
