Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson has leapt to the defence of midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa, who has come under some harsh criticism from the club's supporters.

It could be said that 'Ox' hasn't produced the same performances for Chiefs that he did during his time with Stellenbosch, which piqued Amakhosi's interest in the first place.

Rather, the 29-year-old has often looked out of sorts in the Gold and Black, which has seen him lose his place in Bafana Bafana.

Tuesday saw Mthethwa come up against his former team, and like the rest of his teammates, he delivered a sub-par performance, which riled up the Chiefs fans.

But his coach appears to have been oblivious to the jeers faced by the player - and has vowed to address the matter with the former Black Leopards man.

“Did you see that they were not happy with him? I didn’t see it. Maybe someone will have to tell me and I will have to go and speak to him on a personal note and make him feel like a player. But in saying that, you only notice it afterwards," he told journalists after their loss to Stellenbosch.

“Maybe he has already seen it because social media is like 15 seconds. I have to go to him. You are telling me something that I didn’t know about. He is probably someone I need to go and chat to and ask him about that.

“But Kaizer Chiefs is a different brand, it happens to all the players. It happened many years ago, it keeps on happening all the time. It’s difficult to satisfy all 16 million people at the same time. The only thing that satisfies them is three points and when you lose it’s very difficult to satisfy 16 million people," he said.
