Kaizer Chiefs' continued selection of goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune could start to raise eyebrows after the veteran shot-stopper extended his run in goal in a loss to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby on the weekend.
Amakhosi were trusting Khune in goal whenever goalkeeper Brandon Petersen was not available, however, the 36-year-old has received poor stats in recent times. The Glamour Boys lost their ninth game in their last 10 matches with Khune in goal (the only game Chiefs won with Khune in that period he conceded two goals against bottom side Cape Town Spurs, in a 3-2 win).

The former Bafana Bafana shot-stopper has also conceded in all of his last 10 games at Chiefs, with this form stretching back to last season when Amakhosi lost five straight matches with him in goal.
Khune's statistics in the last 10 games means Amakhosi have had a winning rate of 10 percent with him in goal, which raises question marks on why the other goalkeeper in the squad, Bruce Bvuma is not given a chance, whenever number one goalkeeper Petersen is not available.
Bvuma is yet to feature for Chiefs this season but was given a chance by former coach Arthur Zwane last season early in the season where he started in four games, where Amakhosi kept a clean-sheet once and had one win, lost two games and drew the other game with him in goal.
However, with a little longer run in the 2021/22 campaign, where he made eight starts, the Bafana Bafana shot-stopper kept three clean-sheets, won four games, was on the losing side twice and drew two matches.
Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson, prior to the Soweto derby, suggested that Petersen is receiving psychological support from the club after his reported errors.
However, with Amakhosi losing 90 percent of games with Khune in goal in his last 10 matches, perhaps it is time they look at alternatives.
Bvuma has featured seven times on the bench for the Glamour Boys this season, with four of those matches deputising for Khune and three for Petersen.
