The changes have been ringing at Kaizer Chiefs from the playing personnel to the club’s technical team and Soccer Laduma spotted a few changes for the Soweto giants as they gear up for the season ahead.

Chiefs’ pre-season preparations have seen them head out to Nelspruit, while there are trips to Zambia and Botswana on the horizon for Amakhosi in the coming days.

Under the tutelage of Molefi Ntseki at Chiefs, changes are apparent. In addition to seven new signings by the club, here are some changes we noticed inside Amakhosi.

Rigorous Media Training

The first thing Chiefs’ new players are introduced to, is the rigorous media training carried out by Marketing Director Jessica Motaung, Digital Manager Kemiso Motaung and club spokesperson Alpheus Maphosa. Chiefs, as one of the biggest brands in South Africa, place a lot of emphasis on ensuring players new and old uphold that brand and carry themselves well in terms of their media duties.

Billiat Replacement Identified?

With no Khama Billiat in sight, Chiefs appear to have a new number 11. Tebogo Potsane, who was recently roped in from Royal AM, has been spotted wearing the Zimbabwean’s jersey number. Billiat was offered a new and reduced contract by Amakhosi, though he did not respond to any of the club’s advances.

No Keagan Dolly, For Now

While he remains fully part of the team, Kaizer Chiefs’ vice-captain Keagan Dolly continues his recovery from a knee injury, which required surgery towards the end of the 2022/23 season. The 30-year-old is one of the club’s most important players although the crew understands that new head coach Molefi Ntseki might have to make do without the former Montpellier man for the first few matches of the new season.

No Loan Player Returns

Last season, Chiefs had the likes of Darrel Matsheke, Lebohang Lesako and Keletso Sifama out on loan at Swallows FC and Casric Stars respectively. As per their contracts, they are to return to their mother club upon the expiry of their loan deals, although there was no sign of the trio in the club’s camp. Vicky Mkhawana, who was promoted to the club’s first team was another notable absentee.

Muzi’s First Pre-Season

The club’s conditioning coach Muzi Maluleke, hailed for his impact at Chiefs in a short space of time last season, is currently overseeing his first pre-season with the club. Given the impact he had in the last campaign, we could see a much fitter and sharper Chiefs under coach Ntseki this season.
