Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has revealed one major injury concern ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

The national side landed at OR Tambo International in Johannesburg on Tuesday, with the team set to face Lesotho in a friendly on Thursday before the tournament.

Broos confirmed on Tuesday that Mamelodi Sundowns star Mothobi Mvala is doubtful for the tournament due to a groin injury.

"The biggest problem is Mothobi. He has a groin injury, so the doctor is with him now and we will wait for a medical report," the Belgian tactician told the media.

"It’s not sure (certain) that he will go with us to Ivory Coast. So we will wait for the report and see how bad the injury is. But I think if we take him with us and he can’t train for the next ten days, then it’s better that we take a new one.

"I hope, I really hope that it is not so bad and that again within a few days of rest, he can be again with us that I can count on him fir next Tuesday (against Mali)."

The four players on the stand-by include Orlando Pirates central defender Thapelo Xoki, who would be the like-for-like choice while Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Elias Mokwana and Iqraam Rayners are also on the list.

Broos' charges take on Lesotho in a friendly behind closed doors on Thursday evening before they depart for Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire on 11 January.

The 1996 winners will start their group stage campaign against Mali on Tuesday, 16 January at the Stade Amadou Gon Coulibaly.
