The Citizens are enjoying a fine start to the 2023/24 campaign as they occupy first place in both the Premier League and their UEFA Champions League group, with a 3-0 win over Young Boys on Tuesday night being their latest victory in Europe.

In England's top division, no team has scored more goals or won more games than Pep Guardiola's side, while last season's treble champions also boast the best defensive record.

Famed for his attention to detail and ability to keep his squad remarkably focused, the Spaniard is undoubtedly one of greatest managers football has ever seen, but how much of this would be possible without the players he is able to select from?

Here are the 10 highest-paid players at City, according to Spotrac:

Ruben Dias
10. Ruben Dias – £180 000
Manuel Akanji
9. Manuel Akanji – £180 000
Josko Gvardiol
8. Josko Gvardiol – £200 000

Phil Foden
6. Phil Foden – £225 000
John Stones
5. John Stones – £250 000
Bernardo Silva
4. Bernardo Silva – £300 000
Jack Grealish
3. Jack Grealish – £300 000
Erling Haaland
2. Erling Haaland – £375 000
Kevin De Bruyne
1. Kevin De Bruyne – £400 000

Since Guardiola's appointment in 2016, the Citizens have put together multiple championship-winning teams consisting of footballers from all around the world, with the 52-year-old not afraid to refresh his options when an opportunity presents itself.

In the transfer window at the beginning of the season, for example, City paid RB Leipzig a staggering £78 million (R1.7 billion) for centre-back Josko Gvardiol, who has quickly established himself as a key player in Manchester.

The Croatia international reportedly earns £200 000 (R4.5 million) a week, making him the eighth best-paid player at the club, ahead defensive teammates Manuel Akanji and Ruben Dias.

In front of him on the list are players such as Rodri, Phil Foden and John Stones, but it is the likes of Bernardo Silva, Jack Grealish, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne who are in the highest pay bracket at the Citizens as they all earn a weekly wage of £300 000 (R6.7 million) or more.

This coming weekend, Guardiola's men will take on Chelsea away from home in the Premier League. Thinking of putting money down on this game? Here are three things you should consider!

  • While the league champions are on a five-match winning streak across all competitions, their two losses in the Premier League this season both came on the road. The first was a 2-1 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers in September, and their second a 1-0 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in October.
  • Chelsea's last victory over City dates back to the Champions League final in 2021, with Guardiola having overseen six straight wins over the Blues in all competitions since then.
  • Mauricio Pochettino's team will head into Sunday's meeting brimming with confidence following their 4-1 away win over Tottenham Hotspur on Monday.
