A return to Barcelona could be on the cards for Lionel Messi amid rumours Paris Saint-Germain have made a massive U-turn on the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner's future.
Messi 'Among The Reasons' Mbappe Wants To Leave PSG
Although it has been reported in recent weeks that the club is eager to tie the Argentine down to a new deal, the latest is that PSG are willing to allow him to depart as a free agent at the end of the season.
With less than a year on his contract, it was thought the French giants were seeking to offer him new terms for an extension following his excellent start to the 2022/23 campaign.
This came after Spanish publications suggested Barcelona were looking to reunite with Messi, who left the Catalan club in August last year as a free agent.
However, according to Italian outlet Tuttosport, PSG sporting director Luis Campos is no longer determined to keep the 2021 Copa America winner at the Ligue 1 leaders as he believes placing a focus on building for the future might be more important.
Should he remain in France, Messi would go into the 2022/23 season as a 36-year-old, with it thought that Campos would instead prefer to introduce younger players to the squad going forward.
This report comes amid suggestions that Kylian Mbappe wants to leave PSG in January due to his unhappiness with several thing at the club, including Messi's growing reputation in the team and Christophe Galtier's inclination to use him as a central striker.
