Al Nassr and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo has surprisingly claimed that the Saudi Pro League is better than the French Ligue 1.

The last year has seen some high-profile footballers leave Europe for the Saudi Arabian shores, after Ronaldo became the first to do so after leaving Manchester United in 2022.

The 38-year-old claims the Saudi Pro League is stronger has become stronger and will continue to improve.

"To be honest I think the Saudi League is not worse than French league, in my opinion," Ronaldo said, as per ESPN.

"In [the] French league I think you have two, three teams with a good level. In Saudi now I think it's more competitive.

"They can say whatever they want, it's just my opinion and I played there one year so I know what I'm talking about.

"But I think right now we are better than [the] French league, we still improve."

Ronaldo was speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, where he won the as the Best Goalscorer and Fans' Favourite Player of the Year awards.

The 38-year-old finished as the top scorer in 2023 throughout world football with 51 goals for club and country.
