Since the January transfer window opened, reports have suggested that the 36-year-old has been looking for a way to leave the Saudi Pro League champions after just half a season in the Middle East.
Despite his arrival last year, Al Ittihad have massively underperformed in this campaign so far, and currently occupy seventh place in the league table, for which Benzema has received strong criticism from fans and Saudi media.
It is believed his discontent in Saudi has led him to requesting a premature exit from the club, but it remains to be seen whether or not Al Ittihad will sell him before the end of the month.
Reports have claimed the Saudi Pro League's bosses would be willing to let him go to another side in the division in order to keep him in the Gulf country, although it appears a return to France could be on the cards for the striker.
According to AS, the 2022 Ballon d'Or winner has held talks with Olympique Lyon in recent weeks, while he has also been linked with a return to Real Madrid and a move to the Premier League.
A significant pay cut would need to be taken by Benzema if he was to head back to Europe, after he became one of the world's highest-paid footballer when he joined Al Ittihad in 2023.
